European art dealers Renos Xippas and Albert Baronian are teaming up to open a new gallery in Brussels. Titled Baronian Xippas, their gallery will occupy the former space of Albert Baronian gallery, at Rue Isidore Verheyden 2. The gallery will open with exhibitions devoted to work by Takis and Robert Devriendt on April 4.
Among the artists to be represented by Baronian Xippas are Darren Almond, André Butzer, Robert Irwin, Vik Muniz, Takis, Janaina Tschäpe, and Gilberto Zorio, among others.
“Renos and I have been friends for over 30 years, we have collaborated on many artistic projects and we represent several artists in common,” Baronian said in a statement. “We share the same values and the same vision of running an art gallery. We believe in the power of friendship, collaboration and vision, and want to encourage new interactions, new partnerships and new ways of thinking.”
Xippas also runs a gallery that has spaces in Paris, Geneva, Montevideo, and Punta del Este, Uruguay; its roster specializes in Latin American artists, and has shown such as Marco Maggi, Tschäpe, Pablo Reinoso, and Waltercio Caldas.
In the release announcing Baronian Xippas, he said, “Joining forces in Brussels makes perfect sense. Belgium is a unique European platform. The art scene there is forward looking, constantly breaking borders.”
