The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York has added J. Tomilson Hill to its board. Hill, who with his wife Janine has appeared on ARTnews’s “Top 200 Collectors” list each year since 2002, is well-known in the art world for his collection of modern, contemporary, Old Masters, and Renaissance works, valued at over $800 million.

From 2007 to 2018, Hill served as the vice chairman of the investment firm the Blackstone Group. He is a private investor working in investment banking and asset management, and he also previously acted as the co-president and co-CEO of Lehman Brothers. With Janine, in February, Hill opened the Hill Art Foundation in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood with a selection of works by Christopher Wool.

William L. Mack, the Guggenheim Foundation board’s chairman, and Wendy Fisher, its president, said in a joint statement, “Tom is a skillful and deeply experienced leader in business and philanthropy, who will bring strategic insight and discerning guidance as a member of the Board. Tom also is a founding member of the Guggenheim International Director’s Council, and he and his wife, Janine, are committed collectors and patrons of the arts. We look forward to working with Tom to advance the mission and vision of the Guggenheim.”
