The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, has appointed Guillaume Kientz as its new curator of European art. He officially began in his new position earlier this month.

Kientz previously served as a curator of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American art at the Louvre in Paris. While in France, he organized the blockbuster exhibition “Velázquez,” which was held at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2015 and became the largest-ever exhibition devoted to the Spanish painter in the country. He is now at work on a major El Greco show, which is set to open in October at the Grand Palais. (The El Greco exhibition is also scheduled to travel to the Art Institute of Chicago next year.)

In a statement, Kientz said, “I look forward to organizing stimulating exhibitions and working with the Kimbell’s celebrated permanent collection of masterpieces to inspire and connect with Museum visitors. For all art historians and museum lovers, the Kimbell is a jewel, with its high-profile collection and unique, splendid architecture.”
